The culture and arts project, which spans a year and is repeated every year as a sub-section of the International Nicosia Festival with the concept of "Never Ends", will start the new year with Vincenzo Kornaros's rhythmic novel of the Cretan Renaissance, "Erotokritos", staged by the National Theater of Northern Greece. made a start. Conceived and directed by Argyro Chioti, the classic work of Cretan theater reveals the obstacle-filled and socially unequal love between Aretousa, the only daughter of the King of Athens, and the son of the king's loyal advisor Erotokritos. Alongside the captivating love story brimming with emotion and celebrating love, the play also sheds light on important current issues regarding the limits of human will and the conflict with contemporary social norms. It focuses on Aretousa, a woman who does not passively accept her fate but defends her right to self-determination with courage, passion and hope. The poem by Iranian writer Fallahfar, Totsiou's original composition and the play emphasizing the power of music. The performance featured a poem written specifically for the show by Iranian writer Raheel Fallahfar, a women's manifesto influenced by the struggles of women in her country. The rhythm of speech and bodies creates a contemporary theatrical experience in the work, which emphasizes the power of expression and, above all, music. The play, in which sword fights turned into dance competitions, serenades were sung with electric bass, and Lola Totsiou's original composition was performed live with piano, cello and drums, received high marks from art lovers, while the audience filling the hall applauded the theater team for minutes.
